Waistcoat and Cardigan

This is a vintage knitting pattern for a waistcoat in a light and dark flecked pattern, and a cardigan with a U-shaped neck to mimic the tailored style of a waistcoat. The pattern is taken from Stitchcraft booklet no. 213, which has a variety of women’s and men’s patterns, as well as homewares. 

This pattern is made to fit a 33-34 inch bust for the waistcoat, and two sizes for the cardigan: 34-35, and 36-37 inches. 

Materials required for waistcoat:

• 3 ozs Patons 3-ply fingering wool in each white and navy. This wool can be substituted with modern materials to achieve a tension of 8 stitches for 1 inch of knitting.  

• Knitting needles size UK 9/3.75mm.

• Six buttons.  

Materials required for cardigan:

• 8 ozs Patons 3-ply fingering wool. This wool can be substituted with modern materials to achieve a tension of 7.5 stitches and 9.5 rows for 1 x 1 inch of knitting.  

• Knitting needles size UK 12/2.75mm.

• Knitting needles size UK 10/3.25mm. 

• Eight buttons.
